5 Fun Things to Do in Mobile this Weekend! Ready for a Monte Cristo? Grisham in the Book Corner.

#1 Look what my favorite coffee spot is doing this weekend! Make plans to attend the inaugural WEMO Market at Redbar Espresso this Saturday from 4-9 PM featuring 40+ vendors, live entertainment, sunset yoga and of course delicious food & libations available in the restaurant. Shop local & support local!

#2 Visit the USS Alabama Battleship Park! Look at all of the things happening this weekend at our internationally famous park! I've been to the Living History Crew Drill and it is fabulous! Click here for more information! Be sure to go on the ship and get an up close for a view of the drill! You are welcome to take tons of photos & video!

Did you know that there are areas to picnic in the park? Why not pack a basket and spend the day enjoying this popular coastal tourist destination! Hey, you can even fish off the pier if you bring along your gear!

Insider Tip: Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, tennis shoes are ideal! You will be doing quite a bit of walking and climbing on the tour.

#3 Visit the History Museum of Mobile before the Downton Abbey displays leaves the port city! If its been awhile since you have spent time downtown, this is the perfect "excuse" to go. This historic building was once Mobile's City Hall! Ticket information is available by clicking here.

#4 LODA Artwalk is looking for "cookie monsters" for their Friday evening event! LoDa ArtWalk celebrates The Art of Cookie Decoration on Friday, April 14th from 6-9pm! This event will highlight creatives within our community, including visual artists, musical performers, local restaurants, art galleries, small businesses, and more. This one should be a wonderful experience for all that attend! YUMMY!!! As always this is a free event brought to you by the City of Mobile.

#5 Visit any of our local museums, gardens or beaches if the weather permits! I'll put some options below with links for you to check out hours & ticket pricing. Play tourist in your own town this weekend!

What's New on YouTube?

Are you up to your eyeballs in leftover holiday ham like I was? Here is a decadent handheld ready to assist in using up the remains of your recent feast! This Monte Cristo is a savory stuffed French toast paired with raspberry preserves. I based the recipe on a collection of Rachel Ray options. Full disclosure, I have not made a Monte Cristo in over a decade! It was so much fun researching ideas and putting my own recipe together! It is definitely an exquisite handheld and one I will continue to make around the holidays! You could eat this for breakfast, lunch or dinner, just plan to take a long walk afterwards! Thank you to all who have subscribed to my channel ! It is free to join! I enjoy cooking with all of you!

In the Book Corner with John Grisham

Last week, I picked up a couple of fiction books at the library to read and John Grisham's Sooley was one of them. Wow, he is one of the master story tellers of our generation. All I will say is that the content of this book still haunts me. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it.

One another note, I did read The Lincoln Lawyer. The book was nothing like the series on Netflix, however both are worth spending time on! As an author, I am amazed at the creative liberties screenwriters take with an original work. It is almost always a great idea to read the book.

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.” - George R.R. Martin

Shout out to my friend, Katie Collins! Her company will be on display at the next Home Builders Association Parade of Homes will be April 22-23 & 29-30 at 8529 Crepe Myrtle Court, Mobile 36619. Mark your calendars and be sure and attend!

I'll leave you with the best words of wisdom from the week. Remember you always have a choice in how you react, how you see things and what you do. Have a great week! ~ Charlsie
