This Friday is the 4th of July and Americans celebrate our independence as a country. BBQ grills will be loaded with burgers, wings, links, and more. Friends and family will gather to enjoy favorite summer recipes around the pool, at the beach or out on the gulf. I'll share a link to my flag cake video later in the blog. It is an easy and yummy dessert!
The weather forecast looks great for the holiday and it appears that the daily deluge we've been experiencing is going to skip the 4th. Of course that can change quickly. There are public fireworks displays happening on both sides of the Bay and many neighborhoods have their own events. Here are just a few:
The main 4th of July fireworks celebration in Mobile, Alabama, will be held at USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park from 6-9:30PM. The event includes live music, games, activities, and a fireworks show starting at 9:00 PM. $10 for cars, $30 for RV's - cash only!
There will also be a Mobile Bay Fireworks Cruise offered by Historic Blakeley State Park
$45 adults, $35 for kids 6-12
Dauphin Island has a fireworks even scheduled for 9PM at Middle Beach.
Daphne's Fourth of July Fireworks begin at dusk at the Al Trione Sports Complex. Please enter the park from Whispering Pines Road and CR 13.

Remember that some pets are frightened by the loud explosions so take care if you have a jittery animal. Stay indoors with your dog, put on a movie, and plan to cuddle. Closing your curtains or blinds can help. Think about taking your dog out during the day for some exercise to help tire him or her out. Other distractions can include toys, chews, and puzzles during fireworks. Be sure your pet is wearing a collar with ID and is microchipped.

Help the City of Mobile empty the shelter by adopting or fostering a pet during 4th of July weekend! Walk-ins are welcome from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Friday, July 4 through Sunday, July 6. Adoption fees will be waived for approved applicants.

The Santa Rosa Island Authority is proud to host the 2025 Pensacola Beach Air Show, July 9–12, featuring Pensacola’s hometown heroes—the U.S. Navy Blue Angels—as the headline act.
The four-day event includes a full lineup of top-tier aerobatic performers, ground exhibits, and military demonstrations, culminating with the official air show on Saturday, July 12 with the Blue Angels scheduled to fly at 2PM. Remember drones are prohibited during air show waiver hours, glass is not allowed on the beach, dogs are permitted at the dog beaches on the island and must be on a lead.
