5 Tips for Coping in These Chaotic Times! Catching Up and On the Move!

Hello everyone! It is good to be back at the computer sharing tips with you in this wearisome stage of the pandemic. Do you go out in public or just stay home? Take a moment and look at this lovely image of a dog. Can you feel his contentment? Imagine the anticipation he has waiting for a ball to be thrown. I promise you that he is not tied to watching the news on television or scrolling his phone for upsetting updates. He is in the moment, ready to find fun and fulfillment. I urge you to do the same.

Personally, I learn lessons from my pets on a daily basis. They are satisfied with their ordinary existence as long as there are walks, food, attention, play and a comfortable bed. Humans are being inundated with ways to cope with the increasing stress the world is undergoing. How do you manage all of the changes that are occurring simultaneously?

Look no further than your pet for some incredible clues.

  1. Get Outdoors Daily! Take your dog for a walk around the neighborhood. Notice nature and "sniff" some trees! I am joking about that but I would encourage you to reach out and touch a mighty Southern Oak while you are walking. Slowing down and taking in the beauty that surrounds us in the South will reset your brain. I thank my mother for teaching me to notice beauty everywhere. Her influence lives on in my life.

  2. Be Fearless! Have you noticed how pets go out into the world like caped crusaders? My boys strut down the sidewalk, owning their day. Living in fear attracts the things that you don't want in your life. Panic leads to uneasiness and lack of belief in your abilities to cope. In my opinion, the most important thing for staying healthy is to use common sense. Remember those lessons your parents taught you? Wash your hands, stay away from people who are ill, keep your hands out of your mouth, stay home if you feel sick, and so on...these tips are golden.

  3. Interact with others! If you are curbing your activities and remaining close to home, I challenge you to have interaction with others daily. Grab a cup of coffee and give a friend a call for an old fashioned phone conversation. On your daily walks, stop and speak to your neighbors. Make an effort to communicate with someone outside of your home every day. Your life will be richer and more fulfilling.

  4. Fuel Your Body! Making smart choices in what you eat will have a direct impact on the way that you feel. It will also enhance your ability to fight off possible illness. I feed my dogs a combination of raw, cooked and kibble. My ten year old Standard Poodle has the energy of a pup. I attribute his health to daily exercise, great nutrition and plenty of sleep! If we take the time to feed our pets correctly why don't we invest in our own nutrition?

  5. Get Enough Sleep! Speaking of sleep, you need it. Did you know that sleep care = self care? It is one of the top trending topics this week. Think of sleep as your opportunity to do a hard reset on your body.

I am reading the best selling book, Tuesdays with Morrie. I wanted to share a quote that has made an impact on my approach to life.

The truth is that once you learn how to die, you learn how to live. ~ Morrie Schwartz

Lisa Harkey, Insurance expert and Owner of Alacoast Insurance Agency!

Last week I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Lisa. Like most Southern ladies, she came to my home bearing gifts. I have to brag on her mother's creative talents. She gifted me several pairs of earrings, made by her mom, and I love them all! She rivals well-known jewelry designers with her creations. Keep an eye on my photos, because I know you will be seeing her handy work dangling from my ear lobes!

I encourage you to take a moment and read about this leading female entrepreneur. She exudes confidence and balances that with sincere humility. Click here to read her biography.

She began her agency with zero clients and has built a thriving business employing a team of professionals. I admire her ability to hire a crew that knows how to work together for the common goal. This is an agency where the staff will know your name!

The Book Corner!

If you have followed this blog or know me in person, there is no doubt that you picked up on my love of reading. If you haven't read this best seller that was published in 1997, then I urge you to do so. It is available online for purchase or check out your local library. Several decades later, the lessons apply.

Death is the great balancer and when you are aware that your time on earth is limited your approach is affected. (Face it folks, we all have an expiration date). Morrie Schwartz faced ALS with uncanny authenticity. His common sense yet inspiring insight will stay with you forever.

Thank you Morrie for your words of wisdom and thank you Mitch Albom for sharing them with the world. Be sure to have a notebook handy to write down your favorite quotes from this one!

The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves. We're teaching the wrong things. And you have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn't work, don't buy it. Create your own. Most people can't do it. ~ Morrie Schwartz

Go out and create the life you dream of this week! ~ Charlsie
