Attitude is Everything!

Writer's picture: Charlsie PecoraroCharlsie Pecoraro

Over the past few weeks I have ventured out beyond Mobile into neighboring states and beyond. Every city has its own "vibe" during these uncommon times that we are finding ourselves in. This week I want to give a big shout out to Mobile and Baldwin Counties for seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The attitude in my home market is one of optimism and knowing that all will work out in the future.

What Mobile lacks in big city luxuries is counterbalanced with southern hospitality, great beach access and lush green spaces. Residents are making the most of this current slower pace of life by escaping to the sandy shores, upgrading their own living spaces and enjoying some unscheduled time. For example, my neighbor is a dedicated fishermen and he is making the most of his furlough. He has a boat in the water every chance he can grab!

Entrepreneurs are putting on their creative thinking caps and customers are benefitting from all of this positive energy. I have not found much "doom and gloom" in the Port City. Folks are decked out in all sorts of masks and practicing physical distancing in local shops and restaurants. The feeling I get is that practically everyone is ready to do what it takes to reclaim this area. Thank goodness part of this attitude is to support locals. There is very little talk of closing up business or giving up by business owners. I am grateful to be in a place that knows that this immediate challenge will be mastered and life will continue.

The first time I happened upon this figure I thought it was a real artist painting outdoors. A closer inspection revealed that it is indeed a sculpture located on the grounds of the Mobile Museum of Art. (The squirrel is real).

This is a great example of something you can do while you have free time. Take a stroll through the park-like atmosphere surrounding the museum. You'll stumble upon some fascinating outdoor pieces that are picture worthy!

If you are visiting the area, I'd like to invite you to explore our outdoor spaces. There are so many beautiful parks and beaches for you to visit. You can drive down to Dauphin Island or cross the Bay and explore downtown Fairhope. Venture a bit further down the highway and you'll end up in Orange Beach. The Wharf is open with wonderful restaurant options and shopping.

Congratulations to Ellen Pino, owner of Avant Tous Beauty Bar & Spa for celebrating her 5th anniversary! She has three locations serving the Baton Rouge market. This is definitely a "don't miss" when you are in town. She offers a full menu of services designed to leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. The spa has wonderful facials, massage therapy and so much more.

You'll be able to read all about this driven entrepreneur on the website later in July!

Kassie Gundlach

Another milestone anniversary is being celebrated by Kassie Gundlach, owner of Back on the Rack in Fairhope. This is not your typical "resale" shop because she focuses on high end, upscale designers. Congratulations on your 5th anniversary!

Recently, while in Baton Rouge, I met a couple having lunch at Serops Express on Perkins Road. I inquired about the current"mask" policy in town.

As our conversation went on, they asked me where I was from. They were delighted to let me know that their daughter was going to attend South Alabama. We exchanged contact information since I am a big believer in having some local contacts wherever my kids are!

As she reached for her business card I noticed her Louis Vuitton handbag and of course mentioned Kassie's boutique in Fairhope. I know that this mom will be visiting her daughter while in college. I couldn't think of a better way for them to spend a Saturday, than shopping and dining in downtown Fairhope.

I'd like to leave you with these words of wisdom this week. Your attitude is the driving force behind the creation of your life. Your thoughts about things determine the course of events that will unfold before you.

Here is a perfect example. I have a friend who used to get SUPER irate at the carelessness of other drivers on the road. Admittedly, I have never seen folks run red lights like I do here in Alabama. Lately, he has decided to not react and just enjoy his time behind the wheel. In reality, he can't change their bad driving habits. All he can do is change his reaction. The difference in his life has been incredible.

Attitude is Everything! ~ Charlsie
