One of the outstanding things that I get to do on a weekly basis is meeting with business owners. Recently I have encountered several who have taken over the reins of companies that are decades old. These millennial aged businessmen all share a passion for keeping their family traditions alive. Growing up watching parents and grandparents strive to give the best possible customer service is ingrained in these men. I applaud these individuals for persevering and keeping these companies alive and profitable!

What's Happening in Baton Rouge?
Last week we were in Baton Rouge meeting with clients and interviewing potential new employees. The "vibe" in town was definitely colored with purple & gold. There was plenty of excitement brewing around the SEC Championship game. Are you watching the game tonight? We are headed to a local "watering hole" to enjoy some great food & company! We plan to grab a booth at Island Wing Cafe in midtown Mobile.
We lunched at Elsie's Plate & Pie a second time (just to make sure it really was as good as we thought). I stuck with my grilled shrimp over the Big Better Blue salad (small portion). Hubby ordered a hamburger with fries and LOVED it!
Many thanks to my friend Jeff English for suggesting this relatively new restaurant located on Government Street in Baton Rouge. The next time we go...yes we are planning to go back, we are definitely getting some pie. How does Apple, Cherry, S'Mores, Almond Joy, Chocolate Cream or Pop Rouge sound to you? Check out the menu by clicking here.
Our friends at Visit Baton Rouge (CVB) are gearing up for Mardi Gras Season in the city. If you are looking for a family friendly alternative to New Orleans, then the Red Stick is where you want to be. Click here for the parade schedule.

Mark your calendar for the Louisiana Marathon, a two-day running festival with runners from 50 states and over 36 countries who share a passion for our culture and our fast, flat and festive courses. Whether you're interested in competing in the full marathon, half marathon, quarter marathon, or the Louisiana 5k, there's a race for everyone. Happening this weekend, January 17-19th. Click here for more information.
What's Happening in New Orleans this Week?

One of the big attractions in New Orleans is music. There are over 500 opportunities to hear live performances next week in the city. Click here to visit neworleans.com for a list of places you can go if you are in town. I wanted to share this link because I ran into a couple of folks at a local coffee place in Daphne and they asked me for suggestions. They were going to NOLA for a week and wanted to find some good music. Insider tip: Monday night is going to be very crowded due to the SEC game. Stay away from the Superdome and that area of town.
If you are visiting New Orleans, let me make a suggestion. Why not hire Casper Spillers, owner of Casper Spiller VIP Services to drive you around the city? You'll have an official designated driver and never have to search out and pay for parking. Give him a call for availability and rates at 504-919-8368.

Bosses of the Week! Mobile, Alabama
Meet the team at Good Morning Mattress!
Carlos Lett, Tina Walker & James (Jimmy) Bryan

Carlos Lett, Tina Walker & Jimmy Bryan are the sleep experts at one of my favorite Mobile stores. Good Morning Mattress is a locally owned company that specializes in mattresses, pillows, linens and more. You will notice as soon as you enter the door, that is is not a "high pressure" selling situation. The staff will welcome you to the store and encourage you to wander around trying out different mattresses. They will answer your questions and offer suggestions depending on your needs.
We asked Carlos Lett to share some of his insights about living in Mobile.
1) What is an "insider tip" for folks new to the area? We loved his answer! I would have to say enjoy the most amazing sunsets along Mobile Bay and if you are lucky catch a Jubilee!
2) What is your favorite thing about living in Mobile? The friendly people and the fresh Gulf seafood.
3) What is one thing you would like folks to know about your business? Our team has many years of combined knowledge and experience. We are dedicated to assisting our customers with all of their bedding needs along with providing them with the best customer service.
4) What do you do for fun? If I had to sum it up in three words I would have to say “Family and Football!” Growing up along the coast with warm weather we enjoy a lot of outdoor activities family cook outs, swimming, fishing and of course football!
Thank you Carlos for sharing with us! Good Morning Mattress is located at 6153 Airport Blvd near Hillcrest. Stop in and experience a wonderful shopping experience. Click here to visit their website.
Enjoy the second full week of January. I hope you are honoring your intentions for the year! I've kept up with my daily meditation and yoga practice along with making healthy eating choices. The doggies make sure I get some time outside every day! Focus on your goals and take one day at a time! ~ Charlsie
