Veterans Day, Boss Partner Updates, Downtown Art, In the Kitchen, & Enjoying this Beautiful Weather!

The history of Veterans Day dates back to World War I in 1918 when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…"

I want to recognize our military men and women who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the security of our country. Thank you for your service to all of us.

William Bond Smith, Jr.

The important men in my life have served in the military, beginning with my dad, William Bond Smith Jr. He signed up for the Marines in WWII and ended up fighting on Iwo Jima. He turned 19 on that war riddled island and was fortunate to return home. He didn't talk about those times with his daughters. Years later, I was lucky enough to spend time with one of his fellow servicemen that knew him very well. After all of those years, "Stewart" recalled that my daddy had the most infectious laugh and the guys in his unit did everything they could to make him chuckle!

My husband joined the Air Force during the Vietnam war and ended up fighting in Southeast Asia. Like my father, once his duty ended he returned to civilian life. The memories of war gave them an appreciation for the freedom we have in this country.

Both my older brother and my son joined the Army. My son is active duty and is stationed at a base in his home state of Louisiana. I hope that he never has to use his fighting skills.

Annalisa J.'s TORTA DI MELE (Apple Pie Italian Style)

Sometimes I watch YouTube to learn "how to" do new things. I am interested in honing my baking skills and found this delicious Apple Pie on Annalisa J's Channel. Go check out her video on how to make this delicious dessert! This was my first attempt and I must admit it is fabulous!

Side note: my Monstera Plant was taking over my dining nook, so it has been relocated to the sunny Eastern facing kitchen window. I hope it likes its new home.

Art in the City!

Have you checked out the utility boxes in downtown Mobile, Alabama? Wow! Every single one of them is a unique work of art. In the near future, I am going to walk around and take pictures of as many of them as I can find! I spied this one while on a photo shoot with Camille on Tuesday. It is across the street from Greer's Grocery on St. Louis Street. Isn't it great?
