Living in Mobile and finding things to do here has been a huge part of why meet da'boss has been so successful. Uncovering local gems and sharing them is what we do! Last week I joined a friend for lunch at The Cheese Cottage. Honestly, I am still amazed at how many folks have never sat out on the patio of this unique and delicious place in downtown Mobile. Owner, Kristi Barber and her team of cheese mongers offer a cool outdoor venue with wonderful cheesy foods!
Local Tip: I have created an addiction among friends to the Four Cheese Sandwich. We loving call it the "Adult Grilled Cheese"! So if you have not ventured down to this 650 St. Louis Street location, by all means put it on your list!
On Saturday we celebrated the opening of The Cottage in West Mobile! Owner, Meredith Simmerman, will be open weekdays from 6AM-9AM for grab-n-go breakfast AND local small batch foods will be available for purchase. You'll find her Reney's Honey Butter, Guncles Gluten Free baked goodies, Charlie's Honey, Mo Beignets, and more! The Cottage is located at 9211 Cottage Hill Road in West Mobile!
Local tip: try the Birthday Cake Butter...oh my goodness! Also note that you can dine in! Grab a chair at the beautiful hand crafted community table! Thank you Meredith for opening this wonderful destination!
Another "don't miss" in Mobile is Domke Market, a wine bar paired with gourmet offerings! Owner, Brooke Goff, is an expert at suggesting just the right wines to go with your meals. She has created a wonderful environment for folks to gather for a glass of vino. I've been known to schedule meetings there! Note that she also serves coffee!
Local Tip: If you want a wine education then join her monthly wine club. I'm amazed every month at the incredible varieties she has introduced us to! Located at 720 Schillinger Road S.
This week's blog did not start out as a culinary tour, however it seems to have taken that path! I'd be remiss if I did not mention The Hickory Pit Too in Semmes. This is THE place to go for a hamburger in the area! Owner Brandon Van Hook and his staff really deliver outstanding Southern comfort food!
Local Tip: Grab a few friends and tackle the BossHawg burger...feeds four! You'll find this Semmes' favorite at 8919 Moffett Road!
Joe's Pizza and Pasta got the "stamp" of approval from my Sicilian husband for GREAT Italian food in Mobile. This carryout only pizza place has the best offerings in town!
Local Tip: Try the pastas! Joe's ziti is some of the best we've ever eaten! Stop in at 19120 Airport Blvd! Also visit Crimson Blue Boutique, located in the same strip mall!
So a foodie tour would not be complete without a healthy alternative and my friend, Bobby Howell delivers great tasting meals at Clean Eatz!
Local Tip: Dine-in the first time you try this place, and build-a-bowl! Again, I've introduced so many friends to this option and they are addicted! Also, sign up for his text program and you'll get a free birthday bowl!
August is a big month of birthdays and I celebrated mine on the 25th and hubby's on the 16th. My momma used to create such memorable parties for me and my friends. Sorry about the grainy picture however I wanted to share the "star" of my celebration! The infamous Barbie cake that my creative mom designed just for me!
Honestly, I can't remember any birthday presents but I do recall those beautiful cakes and playing with my classmates. My childhood friends from Forest, Mississippi still mention the cake!
The magic of social media has reconnected me with so many people from the past and birthdays are one of those days that many people reach out. With every greeting, I smile and remember the good times shared with each person. For me, birthdays are about the experience! Thanks to everyone that took the time to send me a greeting! I treasure each and every one of you!
My husband has carried on the tradition of creating memorable experiences for us! No, he hasn't mastered the Barbie cake! (hahaha) He has always found wonderful ways to celebrate the day. Thank you, Alan, for always making every day special!
I'd like to welcome owner, Kendra Kimble-Snowden to meet da' boss! Kendra owns Tip Top Kimble's Cleaning company. Her team takes care of both residential and commercial cleaning jobs! You'll be able to read all about her remarkable story later this week on the website. Meanwhile you can contact her at 251-643-6250.
Also joining meet da' boss is the Good Morning Mattress Center team! This wonderful store is located at 6153 Airport Blvd. Buying a great mattress is the gift that keeps on giving, night after night! Replacing your mattress every 5-7 years is one of the kindest things you can do for your health! You'll be able to read more about Carlos, Tina & James soon on the website!
There are a few thing that you can count on in the south: Blazing hot & humid weather, afternoon rain showers and the absolute obsession with football!
The countdown is on! We'll be cheering for hubby's hometown team, The Saints!
Have a wonderful week!
