Valentine's Day, "Galentine's Day" and more in this "Love" week in Mobile, Baton Rouge & Baldwin!

According to the Webster dictionary love is defined as strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties. Love takes on as many unique meanings as there are individual souls. We are celebrating the joy of love this week by highlighting things to do in Mobile, Baldwin County and Baton Rouge with those special people in your life!

We've made our reservations for Friday evening at one of our favorite dining destinations in Baldwin County. If you've never dined at Villaggio Grille at the Wharf you are in for a treat! This locally owned restaurant offers Italian fusion with a romantic atmosphere and incredible food. Insider tip: The Shrimp Sacchetti is memorable! Make your reservations quickly, they are filling up! (Photo credit: Villaggio Grille Facebook Page)

Osman's Restaurant in Mobile, Alabama is a "hidden gem" that many people who are new to the area or just visiting may not know about. Chef Osman and his wife Mickey own and operate this outstanding establishment. It is popular for the Wiener Schnitzel; however, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The "Catch of the Day", Shrimp Gorgonzola and Filet Mignon dishes are all noteworthy!

Mickey is a culinary trained chef and she is the creative genius behind the desserts at Osman's. This is my all time favorite specialty called Bosnian Cream of Wheat Cake. This light yet filling concoction is similar to an Italian tiramisu yet it so much better!

Insider tip: This is a reservation only establishment due to very limited seating. Call 251-479-0006. Osman's offers traditional early and late dinner reservations, so no one ever feels rushed to finish a meal.

On a recent trip to Baton Rouge, I spent some time with Bistro Byronz owner, Emelie Alton. This unpretentious neighborhood restaurant was a favorite of ours when we lived in mid-city. In 2005 Bistro was born and has grown to five locations in and around Baton Rouge. Click here to see their Government Street dinner menu. There is something to satisfy everyone's palate! Boss of the Week

Dr. Andy Wood

Executive Life Coach

Recently we caught up with Andy Wood and asked him a couple of questions about Mobile and his business. We hope you enjoy his responses and read all about this inspirational man at meetdaboss.com/counselor

#1 What is one "insider tip" you would like to share with people visiting or moving to Mobile?

If you’re MOVING TO Mobile, keep in mind that whatever you LOVE or DON’T love about a city you can find here. Want a small-town vibe? We’ve got it. Want a city feel? You can make that happen. Looking for friends and connections? There are plenty of outlets for it and you’ll be welcome, but you’ll have to be intentional about cultivating those relationships. There is always something to do here, but “nothing” qualifies as “something to do” as well.

If you’re VISITING Mobile, depending on time of year, take advantage of the local in-season events and culture that make the city unique. As I mentioned earlier, there is ALWAYS something happening here.

Do keep in mind that this city is older than the nation, and our roads reflect that! Also, while we tout seafood as our go-to fare, nowhere have I seen more chicken options than here. ~ Andy Wood

#2 What is your favorite thing about living in Mobile, Alabama?

My favorite thing about living in Mobile is the blend of blue-collar and white-collar, history vs. vision for the future, urban vs. small town. As a whole, I love the way the people of all different stripes have figured out how to be a community together. ~ Andy Wood

#3 What is one thing you would like people to know about your business?

The one thing I would want people to know about my business is that it’s not about me at all - it’s about them. Imagine having a front-row seat to an event or a film, only it’s your own life or business you’re watching. Imagine having a trusted friend who sits beside you with a remote control. We can pause the action and talk about what you’re seeing. We can change the script. Improve the performance. Redesign the outcomes. Fix what’s broken. That’s what I do as a coach and consultant. I’m the trusted friend who sits beside you as you make things better, stronger, happier, fulfilled, or more productive 2-7 times faster than if you were trying to do all this by yourself. ~ Andy Wood

#4 What do you do for fun?

I like things that challenge my thinking. I love to write.  I also like going to the family farm in Washington County, sitting on a tractor bush-hogging or walking through the woods. ~ Andy Wood

I'd like to wish everyone a wonderful Valentine's Day! A life filled with the joy of love is made up of experiences with people who support and inspire you. Find your tribe, treasure your soulmate and most of all love yourself! ~ Charlsie
